Mental health & substance abuse treatments expand with federal grants to further reach.
With opiod addiction up 45% in rural areas compared to urban zones, the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) announced plans to grand more than $3.3 Million Dollars to increase the reach of rural treatment centers nationwide.
Rural area's can provide some difficulties in providing as much treatment and availability that is needed compared to urban areas because in part of the isolation the countryside can provide, as well as the stigma opiod and drug abuse can have in rural areas.
These grants will go to primary care providers which have a more in depth reach into the families and individuals living in those area. Primary care doctors are now realizing they play a bigger role in helping patients reach the services they need for things like mental disorders and opiod abuse. Health centers are on the front lines of mental health services within highly populated areas, and now FORHP is looking to become a part of what is seen as a critical role for the urban areas, and increase it's care services to within their own counties.
